THE 5 MOST COMMON MISTAKES WHEN CHOOSING BASIC CLOTHES
Today I want to talk to you about something I've learned through trial and error: the most common mistakes we make when choosing basic clothing. Yes, those garments that are supposed to be versatile and save any look, but that sometimes end up being a disaster in our closet.
I too have bought t-shirts that lose their shape after two washes, pants that don't match anything, or clothes that don't represent me at all. But, over time, I have learned to make better choices, and I want to share with you what I have discovered so that you don't have to go through the same thing.
- Buying low-quality basics: This is a mistake I've made many times. I thought that since they were "simple" garments, it wasn't worth investing in quality. But the reality is that a cheap cotton t-shirt can lose its shape or color after a couple of uses, while a good quality one will last you years. How to avoid this? Pay attention to the materials. Organic cotton, for example, is an excellent option. Even if it costs a little more, you'll see it as an investment because it will stay in good condition for a long time.
- Not considering your lifestyle: For a while, I got carried away by what was 'in' and bought basics that didn't fit my everyday life. As a result, I had clothes that I barely wore. How to avoid this? Before buying, ask yourself: is it practical for my routine? For example, if you work from home, you may need more comfortable sweatshirts than formal blazers.
- Choosing colors that don't match anything: Basics are the foundation of your wardrobe, and their main function is to match everything. But if you choose colors that don't match the rest of your clothes, they become difficult to wear. How to avoid this? Opt for neutral colors like white, black, gray or beige. Once you have those colors covered, you can add touches of colors that you like and that fit your style.
- Ignoring fit and size: I've made the mistake of buying basic clothes that don't fit me right, thinking, 'It's just a T-shirt, it doesn't matter that much.' But of course it does. If you're not comfortable with the fit, that item will end up abandoned in the corner of your closet. How do you avoid this? Always try before you buy (or make sure the online store has easy returns and exchanges). Look for cuts that flatter your body type and make you feel good. Ask if you have questions.
- Not planning your wardrobe: Buying basics at random without a clear idea of what you really need can lead to a closet full of clothes that don't match each other. How to avoid this? Make a list of the basics you need before you go shopping. Think of pieces that you can combine in multiple ways and that complement what you already have.
